Schools in Kathmandu

Texas International Secondary School is a private school at Mitrapark, Chabahil, in Kathmandu, running since 2009. It teaches from Montessori level up to Grade 12, and its NEB-affiliated +2 programme offers Science, Management, Humanities and Law. The school belongs to the Texas International education group, which also runs Texas International College on the same Chabahil campus.

Xavier Academy is a +2 (Grades 11–12) school in Lazimpat, Kathmandu, founded in 1997. It offers NEB Science and Management streams and keeps its classes deliberately small. Its motto is "the institution that cares", and it pairs academic teaching with counselling and co-curricular activities.

Kathmandu Model Secondary School (KMSS) is the +2 wing of Kathmandu Model College, founded in 2000 in Bagbazar, central Kathmandu. It offers NEB-affiliated Grade 11–12 programmes in Science, Management, Humanities and Law. The parent college also teaches Tribhuvan University bachelor's and master's programmes, and a sister campus operates in Balkumari, Lalitpur.

GoldenGate International Secondary School is the +2 section of GoldenGate International College. Both are in Battisputali, Old Baneshwor, Kathmandu, and both were established in 2007. The school runs NEB-affiliated Grade 11–12 programmes in Science, Management and Humanities. The parent college teaches Tribhuvan University bachelor's and master's programmes on the same campus.

Gyanshree School is a new private day school in Mid-Baneshwor, Kathmandu, which opened for the 2026 academic session. It is run jointly by Kathmandu Model Secondary School (KMC Bagbazar) and Euro School Chhauni. It teaches from pre-school upward, following Nepal's National Curriculum together with Cambridge International teaching methods.

IST Secondary School is the +2 wing of the International School of Tourism and Hotel Management (IST), located opposite the German Embassy in Gyaneshwor, Kathmandu. Its NEB-affiliated +2 Management programme lets students specialise in hotel management or tourism, with practical training built into the course. The parent institution also runs bachelor-level hospitality diplomas affiliated with Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.

The New Summit Secondary School is a long-running private school in Maitidevi, Kathmandu, with classes from nursery through the secondary grades. Education portals give its founding year as 1990 (2046 BS). The school says it offers STEM education, computer labs and weekly foreign-language classes, and that it operates under the Phoenix Education Network.

Global School of Science (GSS) is a school in Mid-Baneshwor, Kathmandu, that teaches only +2 Science, founded in 2019. It is a sister institution of Global College of Management and runs NEB-affiliated Grade 11–12 science classes with a strong focus on lab-based practical work. Edusanjal puts enrolment at about 1,500 students (2081/82 BS).

The Excelsior School is a private, co-educational English-medium day school in Swoyambhu, Kathmandu, founded in 1992. It teaches from nursery to Grade 10, and Edusanjal puts enrolment at just over 1,000 students (2081/82 BS). The school's stated aim is good-quality education at an affordable cost, using up-to-date teaching methods.

Tarun Secondary School (Tarun Madhyamik Vidyalaya) is a public school in Balaju, Kathmandu, founded in 2030 BS (1973/74). It teaches in English from play group to Grade 10, and Edusanjal puts enrolment at about 1,800 students (2081/82 BS). Kathmandu Metropolitan City has named it a model community school, and it received the British Council's International School Award in 2023.

Yuba Sahavagita Secondary School is a government community school in Chhakdol, Sitapaila (Nagarjun-5), on the western edge of Kathmandu, founded in 2042 BS (1985/86). It teaches from early-childhood classes to Grade 10. In 2072 BS (2015) the Ministry of Education named it Nepal's best community school, and after the 2015 earthquake it was rebuilt with Chinese assistance.
