Xavier Academy

Xavier Academy is a higher secondary institution in Lazimpat, central Kathmandu. It teaches only Grades 11 and 12, under Nepal's National Examinations Board (NEB). The school opened in 1997 and has run for close to three decades. It is known for small classes and close pastoral care, summed up in its motto, "the institution that cares". It serves students from across the Kathmandu Valley who have finished their SEE and want a Science or Management +2.

According to Wikipedia, the Nepal Education Foundation established Xavier Academy in 1997. At that time, private +2 programmes in Nepal were affiliated with the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB). When HSEB was merged into the National Examinations Board, the academy's affiliation moved to NEB, like every other +2 school in the country.

The Wikipedia entry reports 524 students in 2016, taught by 38 faculty members and supported by 33 administrative staff. The campus covers about 4 ropanis and 7 annas. The academy now works from a six-storey building just north of Hotel Radisson in Lazimpat, one of Kathmandu's embassy and hotel districts. The school's colour is maroon.

The academy has not grown into a large multi-level institution. It has stayed a dedicated +2 school, which lets it keep class sizes small and give each student individual attention. The school's website describes it as a pioneer institution in the heart of Kathmandu.

Entrance-exam links and related updates are sent to the email address the applicant gives, so the school asks applicants to use an address that works. Admission notices come out each year after SEE results, and details of any scholarships are announced with them.
