Tarun Secondary School, officially Tarun Madhyamik Vidyalaya (तरुण माध्यमिक विद्यालय), is a government community school in ward 16 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, in the Balaju area. It teaches from play group to Grade 10 in English. Edusanjal reports 1,819 students in the 2081/82 BS academic year.
History
The school was founded in 2030 BS (1973/74) and has served Balaju for more than five decades. It now teaches in English and uses smart-board classrooms.
In 2072 BS (2015) the Ministry of Education named Tarun the best community school in the former Central Development Region. According to Edusanjal, regional winners received Rs 100,000. Kathmandu Metropolitan City has since designated Tarun a model school under its community-education programme. In 2023 the school received the British Council's International School Award, which recognises schools that bring international themes and partnerships into their teaching.

Book-Free Friday
The school's best-known initiative is Book-Free Friday. Once a week, students put their textbooks aside for hands-on skill sessions. According to Edusanjal, activities have included fashion design, carpentry and drone technology, among other trades. The programme is meant to give students practical skills alongside the national curriculum.
