Kathmandu Model Secondary School

Kathmandu Model Secondary School (KMSS) is the higher secondary section of Kathmandu Model College (KMC), based in Bagbazar in the centre of Kathmandu. Since 2000 it has taught Grades 11 and 12 under Nepal's National Examinations Board (NEB). Demand for places is high: Edusanjal reports that it receives more than 10,000 entrance-exam applications a year. Students come from all over Nepal, most of them aiming for the Science and Management streams.

KMC was established in 2000 in Bagbazar by a group of academics and entrepreneurs. The college's own site names Bishnu Prasad Sharma as founder chairman, with Lank Bahadur K.C. and Dr. Dhruba Bhattarai among the other founders. Its first programmes were intermediate-level courses in science, humanities and law. Under Nepal's later school-education reforms, these became the present +2 programme under NEB.

From 2003 the institution added university-level courses. It now teaches bachelor's and master's programmes affiliated with Tribhuvan University, in management, information technology and social work. Wikipedia lists Rameshwor Aryal as chairman and Dr. Nagendra Aryal as principal. It also reports total enrolment across the institution of more than 2,000 students.

According to Wikipedia, the Government of Nepal named KMC the best private college in Kathmandu on National Education Day 2080 (29 September 2023), based on University Grants Commission evaluations. The school says it holds ISO 9001:2015 certification for its quality-management system.

KMC's institutional motto is "Academic Excellence Through Quality Education". The school says its NEB results are consistently strong and that its graduates go on to engineering, medical, chartered accountancy and law programmes. The +2 section shares the college's quality framework: ISO 9001:2015 certification, University Grants Commission accreditation at college level, and the 2023 National Education Day recognition.
