Nepal Smart Driving Licence Status: Check Online (2026)

Ratings Nepal TeamOctober 30, 20265 min read

If you have passed Nepal's driving licence process but have not received your smart card, the first task is to distinguish licence record lookup, card printing status and physical collection. These are related but not identical stages. This guide uses official Department of Transport Management (DoTM) services and avoids promising a printing or collection date.

Verified against government portals on 30 October 2026. Online forms and office procedures can change, so use the official page for your own transport office.

Which official service should you use?

Your questionOfficial starting pointWhat it helps with
Is my smart-card licence record searchable?DoTM Smart-Card License SearchSearch using date of birth, licence number and captcha
Has the card been printed?DoTM Online Driving License SystemFollow the portal's License Print Check option
Has the card reached my office?Your issuing transport office's official siteCheck office-specific dispatch or collection notices
Do I need to submit a new application?DoTM online application portalReview official application instructions

Do not assume that finding a record means the physical card has already been printed or delivered.

Step 1: Check the smart-card licence record

  1. Open the official Smart-Card License Search.
  2. Enter your date of birth in the requested AD format.
  3. Enter your licence number in the format shown on the page.
  4. Complete the captcha and submit the search.
  5. Compare any displayed record with your own information. Do not share a screenshot containing your full licence number and date of birth publicly.

If the record is not found, first recheck the format and whether you are using the right licence number. A temporary portal error or delayed update is not proof that the licence is invalid.

Step 2: Look for the print-status function

The DoTM online licence portal explicitly instructs applicants to use License Print Check to learn whether a smart-card licence has been printed. Follow that link from the official portal rather than relying on an unverified third-party website.

A printed status is not necessarily a collection instruction. Your card may still need to be dispatched to the issuing office.

Step 3: Check the issuing transport office

The correct collection point is generally determined by the office handling your licence. For example, the Chabahil Transport Management Office's licence search page provides an office-specific search and dispatch information. Its notice asks applicants to contact the office only after the stated period following dispatch. That example is not a nationwide collection rule.

Look for your own office's official website or noticeboard. Do not travel based only on a general social media post about printed cards.

Step 4: Prepare for collection

Before visiting, check your office's latest notice for identification and receipt requirements. Depending on the office and transaction, you may need your original identity document, payment receipt or application reference. Carry only what the official office instructs and avoid paying intermediaries who promise to accelerate printing.

For new licence or category-add applications, the DoTM applicant instructions separately explain identity documents and biometric visits. Those are not the same as collecting an already-issued card.

Common problems and what to do

Search returns no record

Confirm date format, licence-number format and spelling where applicable. Retry later if the government service is unavailable. If the issue persists, contact the issuing office with your receipt and identity information.

Card is printed but not available for collection

Check whether the issuing office has received the card and announced distribution. Printing, dispatch and collection may happen at different times.

Someone offers a paid shortcut

Use official payment channels only. Verify any claimed fee against the relevant government notice and keep receipts.

You need a licence urgently

Ask the issuing office what lawful proof of licence status is accepted for your particular situation. Do not assume a portal screenshot replaces a physical licence in every context.

Practical checklist

  • Keep your licence number and date of birth privately available.
  • Use only official DoTM and transport office domains.
  • Check the licence record, then the print-status function.
  • Confirm the issuing office and collection announcement.
  • Save the official notice or reference, not screenshots of private data.
  • Carry the required original documents.
  • Keep a record of any official complaint or correction request.

Frequently asked questions

Can I check my Nepal driving licence using my date of birth?

The official Smart-Card License Search requests date of birth, licence number and captcha. It does not offer a general public search using only a name.

Does a searchable licence mean my card is printed?

No. Use the separate print-check function for card status.

Is the same transport office responsible for every card?

No. Check the office that handled your licence application or issuance.

Can I use a third-party app to guarantee collection dates?

No third-party promise should replace the issuing office's official notice.

What if my licence details are wrong?

Contact the issuing transport office and follow its correction process. Do not create duplicate applications without official guidance.
