Everest Bank Limited (EBL)

Everest Bank Limited (EBL) is a Class 'A' commercial bank licensed by Nepal Rastra Bank, operating as a joint venture with Punjab National Bank, one of India's largest public sector banks. It began operations in 1994 and has built its reputation on cross-border banking with India, alongside a full range of retail, SME and corporate services.

Everest Bank was promoted by Nepali businessmen and entered into a joint venture agreement with Punjab National Bank (PNB) of India, which holds a 20 percent equity stake and has historically provided management support to the bank. For about twenty-five years PNB nominated the bank's chief executive; Sudesh Khaling became the first Nepali national to hold the post.

The promoter group holds around 59 percent of shares and the general public the remaining 41 percent. The bank's shares are listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange, and its paid-up capital stood at about Rs 13.7 billion in the 2025/26 financial year.

The bank operates around 133 branches, 161 ATM counters, four extension counters and more than thirty revenue collection counters spread across all seven provinces, serving over 1.4 million customers. Its corporate office is at Lazimpat in Kathmandu, with branches through the Kathmandu valley and in Pokhara, Biratnagar, Birgunj, Butwal, Nepalgunj, Dharan, Itahari, Janakpur, Hetauda, Dhangadhi and smaller district centres such as Sindhuli and Bardibas.

The Punjab National Bank relationship gives Everest Bank a direct channel for remittance and trade settlement with India, which is Nepal's largest trading partner. The bank is connected internationally through SWIFT code EVBLNPKA and handles Indian rupee draft issuance, trade documentation and remittance payouts for customers with business or family ties across the border.
