How Tourist Police can help

According to Nepal Police, the tourist unit receives complaints, assists with reports about lost property or documents, supports preliminary investigations and coordinates with other agencies when tourists experience serious problems. The service is not a replacement for medical treatment, consular advice or travel insurance.

What to do if you lose your passport

  1. Move to a safe place and check whether other valuables or cards are missing.
  2. Contact Tourist Police or the nearest police station to report the loss and ask what police documentation is required.
  3. Contact your embassy or consulate for emergency travel-document requirements.
  4. Notify your insurer if your policy covers the incident.
  5. Keep report numbers, receipts and copies of relevant communications.

If a taxi, tour or hotel dispute occurs

Record the business name, vehicle registration or booking reference, date, price quoted and any receipt. Explain the issue calmly to the provider first if safe. If there is harassment, intimidation, suspected theft or other potential crime, contact police. Avoid publishing unverified accusations or personal information online.

Useful local Tourist Police contacts
