Domestic Flight Baggage in Nepal: 3 Airlines Compared

Ratings Nepal Editorial TeamNovember 2, 20266 min read

Quick answer: On the airlines' published domestic-flight information reviewed on 2 November 2026, Buddha Air lists a 5 kg cabin-bag limit and checked-bag allowances of 15 to 25 kg depending on fare class. Yeti Airlines generally lists 20 kg checked plus 5 kg hand carry for its standard Nepal domestic fare categories. Shree Airlines publishes a route-by-route and fare-class baggage table, so its checked allowance cannot be reduced to one number. Your actual ticket conditions take precedence.

This is an independent comparison of published baggage policies, not a ranking of flight safety, punctuality or service quality. We did not purchase tickets or independently test airport enforcement. Always check the airline's latest conditions before travelling.

Methodology: We compared the three airlines' own published baggage or fare-policy pages, using the same questions for each: hand luggage, checked luggage, fare-class differences and what to confirm before paying. The selection is a practical three-airline sample, not a complete list of every operator or an endorsement.

Buddha Air baggage: the fare class matters

Buddha Air's official baggage page states a 5 kg cabin-bag maximum and published cabin dimensions of 55 × 40 × 20 cm. Its checked allowance table lists 25 kg for Normal Y, 20 kg for Normal A and Bravo B, and 15 kg for Delta D and Charlie C/E. The airline also publishes excess-baggage charges by route.

A lower headline airfare may come with a smaller checked allowance. For example, a traveller with a heavy suitcase should compare the total expected cost, not just the ticket price. Do not assume an old promotional baggage offer still applies: special offers have their own dates and terms.

Buddha Air advises passengers to report lost or damaged baggage at the airport and complete a Property Irregularity Report before leaving. Keep your baggage tag and booking reference until the issue is resolved.

Yeti Airlines baggage: read the fare conditions too

Yeti Airlines' official FAQ states 20 kg of checked baggage plus 5 kg of hand carry. Its fare-category policy also explains differences in cancellations and rescheduling among fare types.

That distinction matters. A ticket that includes the baggage you need may still be unsuitable if your travel date might change. Read the refund and reschedule terms shown during checkout, especially for discounted or saver fares. The airline's FAQ says domestic passengers should report to the airport at least one hour before departure for check-in.

Shree Airlines baggage: check the route table

Shree Airlines' baggage and cargo fare table lists allowances separately by route and fare class. Some rows show checked-baggage limits of 15, 20, 25 or 30 kg, alongside a 5 kg hand allowance. Certain route and class combinations are marked unavailable.

This means a single online claim such as "Shree always allows 25 kg" would be misleading. Confirm the exact departure city, arrival city and fare class on your reservation, and check for special handling of sports equipment, fragile items or unusual luggage.

Which airline is better for a heavy suitcase?

There is no universal winner. First note your suitcase weight, then compare the specific tickets actually available on your route. A Buddha Air fare with a higher allowance may suit one traveller, while a Yeti or Shree fare with different total terms may suit another. Excess-baggage fees, schedule, change flexibility and airport access can change the decision.

Before leaving for the airport

  1. Save your e-ticket and confirm the airline, route, date and fare code.
  2. Weigh your cabin and checked bags separately at home.
  3. Keep documents, essential medication and valuables in suitable hand luggage, subject to security rules.
  4. Check the airline's current restrictions on batteries, sharp objects and liquids.
  5. Arrive within the airline's advised reporting window and keep baggage receipts.
  6. If baggage is missing or damaged, report it before leaving the airport and retain the report.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take 7 kg in hand luggage on a Nepal domestic flight?

Do not assume so. All three airlines' referenced published policies show a 5 kg hand-carry allowance for the compared domestic services. Contact the airline if you need an exception or special assistance.

Is checked baggage included in every ticket?

The compared airline pages describe checked allowances, but the applicable weight can depend on airline, fare and route. Confirm the allowance on the exact ticket before paying.

Are extra baggage charges the same on every route?

No. Buddha Air publishes route-specific excess charges, and other carriers may also apply their own route and baggage rules. Check the latest airline page or booking desk.

Does a larger baggage allowance mean a safer or better airline?

No. Baggage allowance is only one commercial policy. It does not measure safety, operational performance or customer satisfaction.
